In 1943, the Proud Americans saw action in the Tunisian Campaign. At the battle of El Guettar, the Battalion along with the rest of the 1st Infantry Division was overrun by the entire 10th German SS Panzer Division. Forced to destroy their guns and withdraw from fighting, the Proud Americans were back in action again within hours and in time to repulse a second assault. For its gallant stand and determined combat spirit, the Battalion was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. The Proud Americans and the 1st Infantry Division spearheaded the attack at Omaha Beach. The Proud Americans were credited for firing the first allied artillery round in the invasion.
The Battalion deactivated in 1962 and reactivated in 1963 as 2d Battalion, 32d Field Artillery at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In July 1965, the Battalion was alerted for deployment to Vietnam, where it would serve until 1971. The Proud Americans saw considerable action in the Counter-Offensive Phase II through VII, the Tet Counter-Offensive, the 1969 Counter-Offensive and the Consolidation I and II Campaigns Earning credit for 12 Campaigns, the unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation (Army) streamer. By October 1967 the Battalion had fired 150,000 rounds in support of operations throughout the Republic of Vietnam and by 1969, The Battalion fired a cumulative total of over 380,000 Rounds in Vietnam. Inactivated at Fort Lewis in 1972.
The unit was redesignated on 1 October 2005 as the 2d Battalion, 32d Field Artillery Regiment and activated on 16 January 2006 at Fort Riley, Kansas as part of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. From February 2007 until April 2008, the Battalion was aligned as part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in support of Task Force Patriot. The Proud Americans conducted dismounted infantry operations to secure the populace and defeat extremist, insurgent and criminal threats to security. Once again from August 2009 to August 2010, the Proud Americans returned to Iraq and conducted full spectrum operations, National Election Security, training and advising the Iraqi Security Forces. From May 2012 until February 2013, the Battalion as part of Task Force Dragon served in RC East Afghanistan, Paktika Province conducting counter-fire operations to guarantee security for the populace along the Pakistan border. The unit also participated and started the first training of Afghan National Army Artillery units in Paktika. The Proud Americans were inactivated in April 2015 at Fort Riley, Kansas
The Battalion moved to Fort Campbell, Kentucky and was reactivated in July 2015. The Battalion deployed a Platoon from Charlie Battery in November 2015 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In March 2016, Charlie Battery deployed another Platoon to Afghanistan for the Same Operation. December 2019 through September 2020 Charlie Battery along with elements of HHB, and F CO deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, manning four Firing locations and eight (8) M777A2 howitzers across Iraq and Syria. Delivering over 4,500 rounds of 155mm Artillery munitions, the Proud Americans directly aided in the destruction of the ISIS Caliphate.
